Emma Radicanu Press Conference

Everyone has a bad day, and that also applies to Emma Raducanu. The 2021 U.S. Open champion did not seem to be in the right mood during the pre-tournament press conference in Madrid.

Emma Raducanu was obviously not in the mood to talk on the designated media day at the opening of the Madrid Open, when players arrive to talk about the upcoming competition. That much was clear when you totaled up the 58 words she was able to muster in response to the sixteen questions on Tuesday. The two British writers who had traveled to the beginning of one of the largest tournaments outside of Grand Slams respectfully inquired about them.

By the end of a difficult exchange that lasted less than three minutes, it was clear that she was beginning to feel the strain of having to defend her place in the top 100. And you might certainly get the conclusion that dealing with people like us no longer seems unique.
