The most recent Mutua Madrid Open champion is Carlos Alcaraz. Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic were defeated by him in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the 2022 tournament, respectively. In the final, he also overcame Alexander Zverev, a two-time champion. He displayed the talent that would propel him to the top of the global rankings a few months later at the age of 19.

During a lovely interview with the Mutua Madrid Open, the Murcia native, who has participated in the Caja Mágica twice, looks back on his experiences playing on the Madrid clay, starting with his debut match here in 2021 and ending with his most memorable performance at the competition last year when he won the ATP Masters 1000 trophy.

Carlitos has a special relationship with his coach and former world number 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero. During the interview, Alcaraz admitted that it was very important to have the support of Juan Carlos, who gave some important tips. Ferrero won the same title back in 2003. Carlitos revealed, “[Juan Carlos said] to stay calm and enjoy the final and the support of the fans. And to play with enjoyment, be myself, and keep playing the tennis that got me to that match.”
