Genie Bouchard had a rather tormented day on Wednesday.
The Canadian Beauty won a tough match against the world no.96 Bibiane Schoof 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4. However, her coach, Michael Joyce, was extremely upset with Genie’s attitude to use tough words during his on-court pep talk. Eventually, that worked, and Bouchard won the match, but she was asked in the following press conference about the attitude of her coach.
Why Bouchard agrees with her coach
Genie commented
“I didn’t have the best attitude for sure. The coach is pissed about that. That is something I am going to work on going forward.
Are you referring to when he said ‘my attitude was f**ked up? [after a direct question from the press]
Yeah, I mean, I need to be called out when I am not doing the right thing on the court. And you know, bad attitude doesn’t help me play better; actually, it probably makes me play worse.
So, I got it together a little bit. It is emotional because I really want to win, but it is about doing the job first.”
Genie will face Julia Goerges in the quarters in Auckland. Let’s see if she can keep a positive attitude.
