I am now really motivated. GENIE BOUCHARD

Genie explains why she is optimistic about her chances in 2019

Genie Bouchard

Genie Bouchard is having a rather bumpy career.

4 years ago, when she was just 20,  the Canadian hottie was ranked world no.5, and she was widely tipped to be the “new Sharapova” because of her results and the fantastic look.

Still back in 2014, after losing the Wuhan final to Petra Kvitova, things started to go dramatically sideways for Genie that also recorded one of the worst performances in the history of the WTA Finals after being trashed in every single match.

Things went from bad to worse with Genie almost crashing out the top200 in the following years. The Canadian was able to access the main draws mainly because she is exceptionally marketable (i.e., her appearance), but she admitted that it was tough to deal with losing match after match for so long.

Back to winning ways

Genie started to record some interesting runs from July 2018 starting from Wimbledon where she won 4 consecutive matches to reach the 2nd round coming straight from the qualifications. Later on, she got to the semifinal in Gstaad before reaching the second round at the US Open starting again from the qualifications.

Genie ended her season on a high after she got to the semifinal in Luxembourg starting from the qualifications after winning 6 matches in 6 days.

The end of 2018 was a turning point. BOUCHARD

Genie is currently in Auckland where she is about to compete in the ASB Classic. The Canadian commented

“I believe that the end of 2018 was a little turning point. Now I’m looking forward. I’m really excited to play. I’m really motivated which is something I have struggled with in the past.

It’s not like I didn’t what to play anymore or anything like that, but after having great results and then having not so good results sometimes, you are like, ‘OK what’s going on?’ and it’s hard to keep going when you lose, week after week.

I went through a phase when it was definitely tough, but I knew it was still what I wanted to do, so I kept pushing through it.”
