Agassi to coach Dimitrov at the Australian Open

Grigor will have the help of the American during the first slam of the year

Grigor Dimitrov had huge hopes for his 2018 after winning the World Tour Finals the previous year, but unfortunately, things didn’t go his way.

The Bulgarian sensation hasn’t managed to conquer a single tournament in 2018, and his rank went from world no.3 to the actual no.19.

Grigor started to work with the former world no.1 and 4-times Australian Open champion Andre Agassi since October 2018, and he was elated with the partnership. Grigor is still coached by Dani Valleverdu as Andre’ is helping only part-time. The American and the Bulgarian will keep on working together in 2019 and Andre will definitely join Grigor at the Australian Open.

They still need to put down a formal framework with certain schedules for the rest of the year, but it’s sure that Agassi will be with Dimitrov during the first slam of the year.

During a recent interview with the Brisbane Courier-Mail, Grigor commented

“Andre has been amazing, a big supporter.

We’ve started to get to know each other a little more and to spend back-to-back weeks together was very helpful. We haven’t decided on an exact number of weeks. We are a work in progress and trying to find what works best for him and us as a team. We respect each other’s time.”

Will Agassi join Dimitrov in Brisbane?

Grigor is not sure if Andre’ will join him in Brisbane for his first ATP250 of the year (31 December – 6 January) to comment

“For now, he is not scheduled to come, but we still haven’t discussed it to that extent; it’s still a little chance. There are a couple of things which we are slowly trying to see what we want to do.’’

This is also great news for Andre Agassi that had a rather tormented and unsuccessful relationship with Novak Djokovic during their partnership. Eventually, after they parted ways (amicably), both conceded that they only agreed that they disagreed.
