Bencic voted the WTA newcomer of the year

Great stuff from Belinda Bencic that after a super season she has been voted as the Newcomer of the year.

The 17-year-old will definitely be one of the big names in the years to come. Belinda’s rank at the beginning of the year was 184 and she has managed to climb to the actual 32nd… and much more to come.

Bencic 2014 record

The youngster hasn’t won a tournament in 2014, but she has reached a final in Tianjin, she got to the quarters at the US Open and she has beaten solid players such as Pavlyuchenkova, Errani and Kirilenko, Jankovic, Kerber and Kutznetsova during the season.

Belinda had a low moment when she was double bagelled (6-0 6-0) from Wozniacki in the Istanbul first round, but that was part of learning how to cope with tough losses.

Belinda: It’s a great honor

The Swiss was elated by this well-deserved award It’s a great honor and privilege to have been voted the WTA’s Newcomer Of The Year for 2014. It has been a challenging and rewarding year for me and I hope to be able to build on my success from 2014 in the future. I have been watching top WTA players all my life and to have been able to be on the same court as some of the world’s greatest players is a dream come true. I hope to make as much progress in 2015 as I did this year. Thank you for voting for me!”
