Berdych trashes Cilic in London

Tomas Berdych is not out… not yet at least.

After the first round when Wawrinka trashed Berdych 6-1 6-1 and Djokovic did exactly the same thing to Cilic it was clear to everybody that both Nole and Stan would qualify for the semis. That is still very probably… but now Stan is risking something. In fact, Wawrinka was also trashed by Djokovic (6-3 6-0) and Berdych has now  demolishes Cilic 6-3 6-1 to keep some hopes alive.

Tomas didn’t have many problems against Cilic that was never in the match. The Croatian was broken in the very first game of the match to be always 1 step behind the Czech.  Berdych won the 1st set after breaking Cilic for the second time in the 9th game (6-3). In the second set Marin disappeared after holding his serve (1-all) to lose 5 consecutive games. The match ended ater 75 minutes. Match Stats.

Berdych: I felt much better

Tomas was happy for  his improvements “I felt much better on the court. But still it was not one of my best. That’s fair to say. But I think that’s the beauty of this event. One day you can be swept out from the court like I did and in two days’ time you can come up and you can play a different tennis.

There were no miracles in that time in between the matches. But I had a good practise session yesterday, good rest, refocused again, and went for another match. More importantly, stay confident with self belief, really just keep on going, keep on pushing. You have to work hard for it.”

Next vs. Djokovic

Tomas will play Novak Djokovic in the final match. He has to beat him to qualify. Head to head IS 16-2 for Nole (6-0 on indoor hard courts).
