According to his brother Djordje, Novak Djokovic has requested a special permit to enter the country in order to compete in the upcoming Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. Foreigners who are not immunized are prohibited from entering the United States under current vaccine laws.
As revealed by Tennis Majors, Djokovic handed over all the paperwork to the authorities, and he is now waiting for good news from the US.
“Unfortunately, it is something that is out of our hands. Novak needs to get special permission to enter, considering that the USA still doesn’t let unvaccinated foreigners into the country, which is unbelievable, considering that we have seen big sporting manifestations with unvaccinated athletes throughout the world,” said Djordje.
Tommy Haas, the Indian Wells tournament director, commented:
“It would be nice to see if we could maybe lift those (restrictions) a little earlier and have him come to play Indian Wells and Miami. I think he wants to play, so we should give him the chance. Hopefully, we can have him there.
I mean, it would be a disgrace in my eyes if he wasn’t coming to these events, or not allowed to come.”
Novak Djokovic was not able to play in the United States last year because of his vaccination status.

LWWWWWWLWW Ranked world no.1, the Serbian played his last match on the 29th of January when he overcame world no.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 7-6(4) 7-6(5) in the final of the Australian Open to win his 93rd career title.
This season Novak has managed to achieve an overall 12-0 match record. Djokovic conquered 2 titles in 2023 in Adelaide and Australian Open.
He is also scheduled to play in Indian Wells (BNP Paribas Open) after Dubai. The main draw will start on the 27th of February.
