Incredible: Both Sharapova, Ivanovic win but eliminated

Weird stuff in Singapore.

Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic win 2 great matches, but they do not get to the semifinals.

Sharapova

Maria defeats Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5 6-7 (4) 6-2 in vain as she had to win in straight sets to reach the semifinal. Maria squandered her opportunity as she was leading 7-5 5-1 to even miss 3 match points. Eventually Radwanska managed to win the set, but she lost the match. That 2nd set was pivotal for the Pole to qualify for the semifinal.

Ivanovic

Ana had to confront a similar situation. The Serbian had to win in straight sets. She won an incredible opening set after recovering a 2-5 deficit against Simona Halep. Then Ana was too soft in the second set to immediately face a 1-4 deficit. Once again the Serbian Beauty found her way back (3-4), but she eventually collapsed to lose the second set. Ana then won the decider and the match 7-6 (7) 3-6 6-3.

The interesting part…

Everything went quite wrong for Simona Halep. In fact, if the Romanian would have lost in straight sets, the toughest player on tour, Serena, would have been eliminated. Losing in 3 sets means that Serena is still around.

The semifinals are Wozniacki-Williams, Halep-Radwanska. The most likely final should be a re-match between Serena and Simona Halep and that would be very interesting!
