Davydenko retires!

Former world no.2 Nikolay Davydenko calls it a career.

The Russian has been one of the most aggressive players on tour and a sheer nightmare for everybody. When Nikolay was in top form he had the power to just beat everyone with his huge anticipations.

Davydenko reached his career high in November 2006 when he was ranked no.3. Nikolay managed to stick in the top 10 till 2010 when he had to face a series of injuries.  From that moment on it was just a big struggle as the Russian wasn’t able to stay with the very best. Davydenko played his last match at the Roland Garros and now he officially retires.

Davydenko: too many injuries…

Nikolay commented “Unfortunately, for some years now, I have been struggling with injuries. It’s hard for me to talk about it. I have been thinking when to announce it. The time has come. I have my whole life to live. I officially announce my retirement from professional tennis.

I decided to retire in June after Roland Garros. I felt I could not play at the level I used to play at. I practiced twice a day, but I felt I couldn’t achieve the result I wanted. But I was waiting for the moment when I would wake up and say to myself it was enough.”

… I’ll work in finance

The he added “I now have set new goals. I can say I will work in business and finance. I will work not only on a national, but also on an international level. I have been playing throughout the world. Time will tell. For me these are new technologies and I have a lot of friends whom I can work with.”

Nikolay has won 21 title and he has reached 7 finals (see details)

Good luck!
