Jannik Sinner is having a rather challenging year after battling many injuries. The Italian sensation is ranked the only number 12 and he was hoping to have a good run in the last part of the season to qualify for the ATP Finals Turin.
The ankle injury
Unfortunately, Jannik rolled his right ankle when facing Holger Rune in Sofia. Eventually, he had to retire from that match and withdraw from the following ATP500 in Astana. Sinner was also meant to compete in Florence next week but he was advised to get more rest. Jannik is still expected to play in Vienna before competing in the ATP 1000 tournament in Paris. He needs to have a glorious result in both tournaments if he wants to qualify for the season’s finale in Italy.
Frustrating to have had to retire last week. I’ve spoken with my doctor and been advised that I need to take some time off to recover.
Unfortunately that means I’ll miss next weeks tournament in Florence 😔.
Time to rest & come back stronger. Thank you for all the messages🙏🏼🦊 pic.twitter.com/kPbtg4KV6Q— Jannik Sinner (@janniksin) October 4, 2022
