Toronto. Djokovic wins an epic match against inspired Monfils

Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils gave a great entertaining to the crowd in Toronto.

The world no.1 was eager to get back to competition after winning Wimbledon and getting married (some rust was expected) and Gael is always ready to entertain the crowd especially when he faces top players.

The Serbian had to dig dip when he was 1-3 down in the decider.  Nole managed to break back immediately Gael to win the third set at the breaker. The final result was 6-2 6-7 (4) 7-6 (2). Match Stats

Djokovic: It was fun

Even if the match lasted a bit too long (2 hours and 46 minutes), Nole was still happy to have been part of it “In a way it was fun, of course, and entertaining to be part of this match. I enjoyed it. I tried to take the positives from this long match, and those are obviously the fact that I stayed over two-and-a-half hours on the court and I have not played an official hard court match since the Miami final. That helps obviously to play a little bit more, to feel the court, to feel the conditions.”

Next vs Tsonga

Nole will now face Tsonga in the 3rd round. Head to head is 13-5 for Djokovic that has defeated Tsonga in the last 11 games.
