Finally good news for Bernard Tomic! The young Australian has fully recovered from his hip operation to win his 2nd career title in Bogota.
Now ranked world no.124, Bernard is trying to get back his condition and Bogota looked to be the perfect place for it. The Australian won the first 3 matches in straight sets to go through epic battles in the semifinal against Estrella and now in the final against Karlovic.
In the match against the Croat giant there was just one break, and that was Ivo’s, then the other 2 sets went to the breaker. Tomic was the coolest of the two to grab both tie breaks.
Some Numbers
Tomic won the match even if he scored fewer points than Karlovic (105 vs 110). The Croatian blasted 39 aces vs Bernard’s 11. Ivo won 88% on his first serve (65/74). Match Stats
Tomic: This is huge for me
Bernard commented “He’s a very difficult player. He won here last year. For me it was a difficult match. I kept trying and believing in myself. Against him, if you stop believing and trying he will beat you. It’s my first tournament on hard courts since my surgeries in Australia. This title is huge and it’s one I will always remember.”
Karlovic: It is difficult when you lose like this
Ivo was very disappointed by his loss “It is difficult when you lose like this. I had a lot of opportunities in the beginning. All in all it was a great week. I was in the final again and I can only be happy. I really like the conditions here and hopefully I will be back next year.”
With this title Bernard will be back in the top100
