Finally Vika Azarenka is back!
The former world no.1 has been struggling for some time with her foot injury. Vika tried to come back in Indian Wells without success to then take some more time off to complete the recovery. Last week she lost to Camila Giorgi a very competitive match and now she looks ready.
Now ranked world no.9, Vika has defeated Lucic-Baroni from Croatia 6-3 7-5. Match Stats
Vika didn’t win the Championships, but she was still elated by this win “I’m just very happy to be able to play – this is what I love to do. It’s such a great feeling to play without pain and that’s what’s important for me at the moment.
I think getting the game together and the timing is a long process. But the important thing is that I’m there and feeling 100%. My focus is there. My desire and concentration is there. So that’s all I can ask for in myself.”
Next vs. Jovanovsky
Vika will play Bojana Jovanovski in the next round. They have played each other only once and that was also in Wimbledon 2nd round (2010). At that occasion Vika won 6-1 6-4, but this year it should be more difficult.
