Dayana Yastremska is having another incredible run in Luxembourg.
The Ukrainian surprised last week after winning her maiden title in Hong Kong, to jump on the airplane and win a very tough first round in Luxembourg 6-2 6-7 (10) 7-6 (5) against Varvara Lepchenko.
When the day after Dayana had to face the seed no.2 Garbine Muguruza it seemed as the 18-year-old had no fuel in the tank to face such a competitor. However, Dayana surprised again to beat the Spaniard 6-2 6-3 in just 69 minutes.
I was in shock. YASTREMSKA
This was Dayana’ most important win of her young career. The Ukrainian commented
“My face was in shock when I won. But it was not shock that I won the match, it was shock that I won against Muguruza. I beat a top player who has two Grand Slams, I didn’t expect that it would be this score. It was a really tough match.”
Next vs. Gasparyan
Dayana will face the world no.124 Margarita Gasparyan in the quarters. They have never played each other so far. If Yastremska is fit, she is the favorite to reach the semifinal.
