Stefanos released an interesting insight about the one-handed backhand and its advantages.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the few players that are still adopting the one-handed backhand and he is both proud of it and aware that it’s a huge weapon.

Nowadays kids are taught to use a double-handed backhand because it’s the easiest choice especially for the youngsters, but going for the one-handed can have huge advantages. This is the opinion of Stefanos that during a recent interview commented

One-handed backhand is me. If I play double-handed it’s not me, it’s someone else. I was nine years old, it didn’t seem natural to me even then. I didn’t feel the same freedom with a two-hander.

In the beginning, they had a bigger advantage, I wasn’t that strong as a kid, but I was still beating them.

I was champion in Greece – under-10, 12 and 14.1 was the only kid in Greece who played a single-handed backhand. When you’re young, you’re short and the balls are coming at you higher.

I didn’t have the same power as now, to just go for it, but I am grateful that I didn’t change. If I adopted the two-hander, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I’m pretty sure of it.”

So, better staying on 1 hand?
