Nikoloz Basilashvili does it again.
After surprising the tennis world a few months ago when he won the ATP500 in Hamburg coming straight from the qualifications, the Georgian wins another ATP500 in Beijing.
Nikoloz achieved that after defeating Juan Martin Del Potro in the final. The Argentine was clearly struggling (flu) and he could give much of an opposition to lose 6-4 6-4.
I was in a really good shape.
After the match, Nicoloz commented
“I was in a really good shape coming up to this tournament. I’m really feeling well on court. Playing against Juan, he was sick today for sure; I could see that. But he put me in really tough situations. I needed to really work it, to work hard to win the points. I really enjoyed this match. To win a title here in Beijing means a lot, it’s one of the best tournaments.”
After this week the Georgian will go up 8 places to be the new world no.23. Nikoloz will have another big task ahead as he will face Denis Shapovalov in the 1st round in Shanghai.
