Stefanos Tsitsipas was widely expected to have a good run at the US Open after his fantastic stint in North America where he reached the semifinal in Washington and the final in Cincinnati.
However, things didn’t go his way in New York where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in 4 sets.
The match
The contest was one-way traffic, and when Medvedev got a 6-4 6-3 4-2 lead, everything was pointing to a straight sets win. However, Stefanos refused to bow, and he managed to conquer 4 consecutive games to bring the contest to the 4th set. The local crowd that packed court no.10 was hoping to see an epic, but the Greek couldn’t follow through, and eventually he lost 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-3.
I felt empty. TSITSIPAS
In the following pre-conference, Stefanos explained what happened
“I had no energy. But I managed somehow, you know, rehabilitate and get ready for the second-round match. But it didn’t feel the same.
You breathe this heat that’s coming, the moisture that’s in the air. So, you feel like you’re empty. You’re not breathing out, breathing in, breathing out, so it feels really awkward to be playing like this.”
Time for Stefanos to breath.
NOT HIS WAY THIS TIME
