“Djokovic is not held captive. He can leave any time,” says Home Affairs Minister

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said in a radio interview on Friday that Novak Djokovic is free to leave Australia anytime. That could be a good move given the climax

Djokovic Can Leave

Novak Djokovic’s saga is getting trickier and trickier. The world no.1 was stopped at the Australian border and his visa was revoked after he was made fly Down Under. There are many contrasting reports about what has happened, and the situation is becoming a huge political issue.

While there is a ping pong of accusations between the Federel Government and the one from Victoria, in Serbia, Djokovic’s father is trying to make his son look like a sort of martyr, comparing him to Jesus Christ and Spartacus.

“He can leave any time”

There are weird statements saying that Novak is held captive like a war prisoner. However, even if he is probably not treated that well, he is definitely free to leave the country in peace. This is what Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said in a radio interview on Friday.

“Djokovic is not being held captive in Australia. He is free to leave at any time that he chooses to do so, and Border Force will actually facilitate that,” she said.

Instead, Novak appealed the decision and he will have an answer by Monday. In the meantime, he will stay in the Park Hotel in Melbourne. Not a great treatment, but staying in Australia instead of taking a flight back home was his choice.
