Novak Djokovic will play the 2022 Australian Open! The Serbian champion receives a special medical exemption to play the first major of the year. The world number 1 is notoriously against vaccination. There were many doubts about his participation in the Australian Open where all players are requested to be vaccinated unless they receive a special medical exemption.
Eventually, Djokovic received the medical exemption alongside some other players.
Novak announced the news on social media with the following message:
“Happy New Year! Wishing you all health, love & joy in every moment & may you feel love & respect towards all beings on this wonderful planet. I’ve spent fantastic quality time with loved ones over break & today I’m heading Down Under with an exemption permission. Let’s go 2022!”
