CORONAVIRUS. Raducanu retires from Melbourne WTA250. Naomi Osaka the hot favorite

Emma Raducanu explains why she will not play next week in Melbourne

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu was supposed to be back to competitions next week on the occasion of the WTA 250 that will be played in Melbourne. Unfortunately, the new British sensation will not be able to play next week since she’s not yet 100% fit from a physical point of view.

Emma got infected by the coronavirus when she was in Abu Dhabi, and she flew to Australia only a few days ago. The 19-year-old seemed to be in a great mood during her training, but she was probably not totally confident of her form.

With Emma out, Naomi Osaka and probably Simona Halep are the players with the best chances to win the event.

The Statement

This was Emma’s statement:

“The timing to compete in the first Melbourne event this week is too soon for me, having just returned from isolation.”
