Andrey Rublev joins the long list of tennis players who became infected by the Coronavirus during his stay in Abu Dhabi. During the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Rafael Nadal, Emma Raducanu, Denis Shapovalov, Belinda Bencic, and Ons Jabeur all became infected.
The Russian player released the following statement on social media:
“Hello everyone. I want to share some news with you. I am currently in Barcelona and unfortunately tested positive for covid-19. I have minimal symptoms. I am in isolation and following all the protocols under the supervision of doctors. As you know, I am fully vaccinated and was preparing for tournaments – ATP Cup and Australian Open. Now I have to recover and I will go to Melbourne only when it will be safe for everyone.
I am very upset and concerned about what is happening. Please, take care of yourself and of the people around you. I will return to the court as soon as possible.”

Currently ranked no.5 (career-high), the Russian played his last match on the 18th of December when he beat world no.134 Andy Murray 6-4 7-6(2) in the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
Currently, during this year the Russian owns an overall 53-23 record. Rublev clinched 1 title in Rotterdam. Rublev was the runner-up in Monte-Carlo, in Halle and in Cincinnati.
Rafael Nadal in 2021
Currently ranked no.6, Rafael played his last match on the 18th of December when he surrendered to world no.14 Denis Shapovalov 6-7(4) 6-3 10-6.
Until now, during this year the Spaniard has an overall 24-5 win-loss record. Rafael conquered 2 titles in 2021 in Barcelona and in Rome.

Denis Shapovalov in 2021
Now ranked no.14, Denis played his last match on the 18th of December when he beat world no.6 Rafael Nadal 6-7(4) 6-3 10-6.
This season the Canadian has a 30-23 win-loss record. Denis Shapovalov’s most significant achievement of this season was getting to the final in Geneva and Stockholm.
