Rafael Nadal had just ended his tour in the Middle East after he played the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. Unfortunately, the Spanish sensation announced that he was positive for Coronavirus to most probably skip the Australian Open.
It was Rafa Nadal to update his fans with this message:
“Hi all. I wanted to announce that on my return home after playing the Abu Dhabi tournament, I have tested positive for COVID in the PCR test that was performed on me when I arrived in Spain.
I am having some unpleasant moments but I hope that I will improve little by little. I am now homebound and have reported the result to those who have been in contact with me.
As a consequence of the situation, I have to have total flexibility with my calendar and I will analyze my options depending on my evolution.
I will keep you informed of any decisions about my future tournaments!

Why Nadal will probably not play the Australian Open
After the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, Nadal already revealed that he was not sure if he would play the Australian Open. Rafa lost both of his matches in Abu Dhabi, where he looked a bit rusty after being out of competitions for more than 4 months. Now that he tested positive for Coronavirus, it seems rather unplausible that he will go to Australia to play in a tournament where he historically has not had much success.

Now the world no.6, the Spaniard played his last match on the 18th of December when he was overcome by world no.14 Denis Shapovalov 6-7(4) 6-3 10-6.
This season Rafael has managed to achieve a 24-5 match record. Nadal conquered 2 titles in 2021 in Barcelona and in Rome.
