At 18 years of age, Emma Raducanu won her first slam at the US Open without having much experience playing at the top level. However, Emma made history for conquering the American major starting from the qualifications and without conceding a single set in 10 matches.
Raducanu was the first to be surprised about her fantastic run in New York, where she was just aiming to qualify for the main draw. During a recent interview with PEOPLE, Emma confessed that she is amazed that she has joined big names such as Serena and Venus Williams.
Nevertheless, Raducanu is very well aware that she has to achieve much more in order to be compared to these tennis legends. Also, Emma considers her US Open title as a starting point for her career.
The British sensation commented:
“To join those names [ Serena and Venus Williams], I think, is pretty crazy. And I don’t really believe it, because they’ve achieved so much. So for me to be part of that little group, I think, is a good achievement. But I’m just really looking forward to getting started from here and trying to really make my tour experience and my tour legacy prolonged.”

Ranked world no.19 (career-high), Raducanu played her last match on the 9th of November when she was defeated by world no.102 Xin Yu Wang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-5 in the 2nd round in Linz (draw).

At the moment, during this season Serena Williams has managed to achieve a compiled 12-5 record. Serena Williams’s best result of this season was getting to the semifinal in Melbourne and at the Australian Open.
