Stefanos Tsitsipas was not in the best conditions to play the ATP Finals since he has been struggling for a long with his right elbow. Eventually, the Greek sensation decided to withdraw after losing his opening match against Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-4.
Stefanos was meant to face Casper Ruud on Wednesday in his second match. Unfortunately he announced his retirement with the following statement:
“I have taken the very difficult decision to retire from the 2021 Finals due to my elbow injury, which has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now.
It’s a very difficult decision from my side, and I was working really hard this year to get to play the Finals and be part of this amazing event, but unfortunately I won’t be able to continue.”
Stefanos already withdrew from his previous tournament in Paris for the same injury. Cameron Norrie will take his place as the second alternate. Jannik Sinner has already replaced Matteo Berrettini in the other group has the first alternate.

Currently the world no.4, the Greek played his last match on the 15th of November when he lost to world no.5 Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-4 in the round robin in the Nitto ATP Finals (draw).
During this season the Greek owns a 55-19 win-loss record. The Greek conquered 2 titles in 2021 in Monte-Carlo and in Lyon. The Greek was the finalist in Acapulco, in Barcelona and at the French Open.

Ranked world no.12 (career-high), the Brit played his last match on the 4th of November when he lost to world no.23 Taylor Fritz 6-3 7-6(3) in the 3rd round in Paris (draw).
Presently, during this year Cameron achieved a compiled 54-22 win-loss record. The Brit conquered 2 titles in 2021 in Los Cabos and in Indian Wells. The Brit got to the final in Estoril, in Lyon, in London and in San Diego.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Cameron Norrie fought against each other only on 1 occasion. Their current record is 1-0 for Tsitsipas. When they played, Stefanos Tsitsipas won 6-3 6-3 in the final in Lyon (Open Parc) on the 23rd of May 2021.
