Stefanos Tsitsipas was having a fantastic season until he lost the French Open final against Novak Djokovic. From that moment on, Stefanos Tsitsipas has been struggling with his results. Stefanos lost in the first round in Wimbledon, in his second match in Hamburg, and in the 3rd round at the Olympic games.
Things went dramatically south for the Greek champion in North America. Stefano lost in the semifinals in both Toronto and Cincinnati. However, his last match in Cincinnati was horrible also in terms of his relationship with the fans when Sascha Zverev publicly accused him of cheating during long toilet breaks.
Things got even worse at the US Open when also Andu Murray accused him rather publicly of cheating for getting long toilet breaks. The result was that when he was playing, Stefanos was constantly booed by the fans. Eventually, Stefanos lost in New York in the third round at the hands of 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz Garfia.
Stefanos was clearly struggling from a mental point of view that he decided to take some time off and be by himself at the Azores.
It was the world’s number 3 to update his fans with the following message:
“It’s been a minute since I’ve taken any time off or even just taken time for myself. I always feel like I’m in a rush and should be moving forward in some shape or form, but slowly I’ve learned that isn’t necessarily the right way. Silence and solitude can also lead to progress.
Over the years I’ve kept myself so distracted with work and travel that I didn’t have the time to allow myself to feel as happy or as sad as I should have. When one is in the public eye, others only see and pay attention to the highs, but are not aware of the lows.
At a certain point, the whole thing caught up to me and it’s been an eye-opening experience, to say the least. Put emphasis on your well-being, love as hard as you can, and take that extra time for yourself. Fulfillment and gratification will soon follow.”

Currently the world no.3 (career-high), the Greek played his last match on the 3rd of September when he was defeated by world no.55 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia 6-3 4-6 7-6(2) 0-6 7-6(5) in the 3rd round in U.S. Open (draw).
Currently, during this season the Greek owns an overall 50-15 match record. The Greek conquered 2 titles in 2021 in Monte-Carlo and in Lyon. Tsitsipas got to the final in Acapulco, in Barcelona and at the French Open.
