The South African player defeated Nadal last week in Washington after a rather entertaining 3 setter. However, Lloyd’s record may not last long since he will face Nadal again in Toronto (2nd round) this week after defeating Brayden Schnur 6-3 6-2.
After beating Nadal in Washington, Lloyd commented:
“Today was really special. I think I have had some big wins, and this year I have beat some Grand Slam champions. But to beat a 20-time Grand Slam champion, and especially in front of a full crowd and with such an amazing atmosphere, it was definitely something very special.”

Now ranked no.49 (career-high), the South African has a compiled 21-15 win-loss record in 2021. Lloyd is currently competing in Toronto where he overcame Brayden Schnur 6-3 6-2.
