Nick Kyrgios was hoping to have a good run at the Citi Open in Washington, defending his 2019 title. However, things went horribly wrong for the Australian player who lost as early as in the first round at the hands of Mackenzie Mcdonald. Nick Kyrgios was never in the match to lose 6-4 6-4.
Social Media
After the match, Nick Kyrgios could not hide his disappointment for how he played. Interestingly enough, Kyrgios seemed to be quite worried about the comments from his friends on social media.
The Australian commented:
“I just feel as if I don’t – I’m not feeling the severity of certain points, and I don’t feel the pressure as much as obviously playing week in, week out. You feel when you kind of have to press, when you kind of have to relax, when you kind of coast when you kind of push.
I don’t really feel like my body and my mind quite understand the severity of some points here or there because I haven’t played that much.
Look, I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed. I know that I’m going to be dealing with a lot of shit now on social media. Like, my head’s in the shed, to be honest. I don’t know. I didn’t play great.”
Nick Kyrgios will now play doubles with Frances Tiafoe, who also has lost in the first round. Nick Kyrgios is also expected to play the qualifications at the Rogers Cup. His ranking is just plummeting, and if he does not perform any soon, Nick is expected to crash out of the top 100.
