Jannik Sinner and Reilly Opelka had high hopes in Atlanta to have a deep run in singles. However, that didn’t happen. Seeded no.2, the young Italian player lost in his opening match against the world no.122 Christopher O Connell 7-6(7) 6-4. Opelka was defeated by his fellow American Taylor Fritz, in the quarterfinals.

Nevertheless, this week in Atlanta has been quite successful for Jannik and Reilly after winning the competition in doubles following their win in the final against American Steve Johnson and Australian Jordan Thompson 6-4, 6-7(6).

After the match, Jannik Sinner commented:

“He gets more credit because he was serving very, very good and today obviously he was returning well. At the end of the day, we had a lot of fun the whole week. Thanks to him for playing with me.”

Reilly Opelka also confirmed that he enjoyed playing doubles with Jannik to comment:

“It was fun. You get a guy with returns as good as Jannik’s; you can beat anyone. It was unbelievable. Seriously, it was impressive to watch, and it was fun to be around a guy like him.

He’s 19, but you wouldn’t know it. He’s so far ahead of his age, and you can tell his mind works differently than a lot of the other guys’.”

Both Jannik Sinner and Reilly Opelka are going to play this week in the ATP 500 in Washington.
