Serena Williams has been chasing for long her dream to conquer the elusive 24th major. Unfortunately, it seems more and more clear that the American sensation is struggling a lot with her fitness. Serena will soon turn 40, and time is running out to win another slam.

The American legend had high hopes for Wimbledon where many had the impression she was the hot favorite. Eventually, Serena had to surrender to a hamstring injury as early as in the first round.

The former world number 1 left the Center Court in tears. After, she penned this message on social media for her fans:

“I was heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg. My love and gratitude are with the fans and the team who make being on centre court so meaningful. Feeling the extraordinary warmth and support of the crowd today when I walked on – and off – the court meant the world to me.”

Serena will not compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. She is widely expected to give another shot at the US Open. The big question will be: “Is the US Open going to be Serena’s last slam?”
