Stefanos Tsitsipas had an extremely emotional day on Sunday. The Greek sensation played his first Grand Slam final against the great Novak Djokovic. Stefanos managed to lead the encounter by 2 sets before the Serbian champion staged the spectacular comeback and win in 5 sets.
Soon after the match, Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed that his beloved paternal grandmother died just 5 minutes before the start of the final. Therefore, Stefanos dedicated his amazing run at the Roland Garros to his grandmother posting the following heartfelt message.
“Life isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about enjoying every single moment in life whether that’s alone or with others. Living a meaningful life without misery and abjection. Lifting trophies and celebrating wins is something, but not everything.
5 minutes before entering the court my very beloved grandmother lost her battle with life. A wise woman whose faith in life, and willingness to give and provide can’t be compared to any other human being that I have ever met. It’s important to have more people like her in this world. Because people like her make you come alive. They make you dream. I would like to say that regardless of the day, circumstance or situation, this is entirely dedicated to her, and only her.
Thank you for raising my father. Without him, this wouldn’t have been possible.”

Ranked world no.5 (career-high), Tsitsipas played his last match on the 13th of June when he was defeated by world no.1 Novak Djokovic 6-7(6) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the final of the French Open (draw).
Until now, during this year Stefanos has a compiled 39-9 record. Stefanos clinched 2 titles in 2021 in Monte-Carlo and in Lyon. Tsitsipas was the runner-up in Acapulco, in Barcelona and at the French Open.
