A good win at the US Open, but a tough moment for Agnieszka Radwanska.
The world no.4 had to withdraw from Cincinnati when she had to play Na Li in the quarter to attend the funeral of her beloved grandfather back home.
The Pole then had to go back to play the US Open where she is definitely one of the favourites as she is playing definitely one of her best tennis.
Agnieszka won the first two matches without conceding a single set beating two players from Spain (Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-2 6-2 and now Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-0 7-5).
The Match against Torro-Flor was rather easy at the very beginning as the Pole won the opener 6-0 in just 21 minutes. The second set was still a bit more complicated, but finally Agnieszka won it 7-5.
Agnieszka about his granpa: He was our biggest fan
The world no.4 had some nice comments about his grandfather to say “We were really, really close. He was always supporting us. I think he was our biggest fan,(including her sister)”
Talking about her decision to withdraw from Cincinnati to attend the funeral she said “Of course tennis is always a priority, but in this case I just had to go home. It was easy decision, because it was the moment I had to be with my family.”
Next vs. Pavlyuchenkova.
Agnieszka will play world no.33 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova that has dismissed Ashley Barty 6-4 6-0. Head to head is 1-1 and Agnieszka has lost the last one…. But that was sometimes ago. Details.
