Wimbledon was the only slam that was not played during the global pandemic in 2020. The organization of the Championships had the luck to be insured against a pandemic and therefore, it didn’t make any sense at all from an economic point of view to stage the event last year.
Fortunately, things changed dramatically this year in the UK where they have managed to vaccinate a huge amount of people. Therefore, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in the UK went down dramatically and it has been confirmed that the major will take place in 2021.
The fans
The club’s chairman, Ian Hewitt, said that a minimum capacity of 25% is currently being planned and there could be the opportunity that more fans will be allowed according to what will happen in the next months.
“We plan to deliver the best Championships possible in accordance with public safety. It will necessarily be different from Wimbledon as we know it,” said Hewitt.
Federer
Roger Federer has centered all his comeback from surgery on having the best possible chance to win Wimbledon for the 9th time. The Swiss sensation had probably the biggest heartbreak of his splendid career when he lost the 2019 final against Novak Djokovic when he failed to convert two consecutive Championship points on his serve.
There are strong possibilities that this will be the last Wimbledon that Federer will play since he is about to turn 40.
