Serena mauls Schiavone that gets a sympathetic hug from a ball boy.

It’s not easy playing an in-form Serena Williams at the US Open, actually that is dreadful.  Former French Open champion, Francesca Schiavone was not spared by the world no.1 that conceded only 1 game to the Italian.

The match was a total annihilation with Serena winning 52 points vs. Schiavone’s 23. The Italian managed to win only 13 points out of 40 during her serving games. Ouch! Match Stats.

The funniest part was when after losing a 26 shots rally (and on a nasty 0-6 0-2 score line) Francesca went to a ball boy to ask for a hug!

Serena: I tried to be super serious.

After the match Serena commented “I knew playing a former Grand Slam champion in the first round was a really, really tough draw. so I tried to be super serious.”

Francesca: For the first time in my life, I felt joy from winning a single game

An always enterataining Francesca Schiavone commented about the hug “I don’t need a hug in that moment,” Schiavone said jokingly. “I need a game !”

“It was very, very nice to win a game. For the first time in my life, I felt joy from winning a single game.” She added.

Next vs. Voskoboeva

Serena will play the second round against world no.77 Galina Voskoboeva from Kazakhstan. Head to head is 1-0 for Serena.
