Coco Gauff will play her first match in Charleston on Tuesday

Coco Gauff Pironkova

Cori Gauff is finally starting her run in Charleston against Tsvetana Pironkova. Curiously, Coco has never played this tournament in South Carolina. Therefore there are no records about the American teenagers competing in this event.

Coco is trying to find her best tennis after and not so fantastic 2021. Gauff had a couple of good runs in Adelaide where she reached the semi-final and Dubai where she got to the quarters. However, besides these two tournaments, she has never managed to win more than one match in the other events.

The 17 years old is struggling a bit with some part of her games like it her second serve. She has recently stated that improving her game is a priority right now and she is not looking for “fast results.”

Coco has a tough task in Charleston where she’s opposed to Pironkova. Tsvetana was sidelined for more than two years after her pregnancy. However, she came back to the tour pretty strong and she proved that she can beat anyone when she reached the quarters at the last US Open in what was her comeback tournament.

Cori Gauff and Tsvetana Pironkova have never played each other.
