It seems more and more clear that many young players are too distracted by social media. Stefanos Tsitsipas admitted that his head was bursting from all the comments coming from social media. Therefore, the Greek sensation took the decision to stay out of social media when he plays important tournaments. Nevertheless, sometimes these tools are a sort of digital pacifier. When Tsitsipas lost a heartbreaking match in the US Open against Borna Coric, the first thing he did was tweeting his disappointment while still on court.
Sometimes, Naomi Osaka uses social media in order to post her disdain for racist behaviors or some other social issues. Nevertheless, she is starting to use her accounts more for professional end promotional reasons.
Serena Williams is a mother and also, she is a little bit older than the other players. Therefore, she’s pretty good at not be entangled in useless discussions on social media. Serena uses her accounts almost uniquely for promotional reasons or to grow her fan base.
Coco Gauff is the youngest of the pack and at 17 years of age she still has to find a way to deal with social media. However, during an interview with Essentially Sport, she admitted that she has been limiting the amount of time that she spends on social media.
“For me, I think I was just trying not to be on social media as much because, you know, a lot of people have opinions on you and how they think you should play,” said Coco Gauff.
