Alexander Zverev had a rather adventurous semifinal in Acapulco against Dominik Koepfer with an earthquake hitting the area during a rally. Sascha and Domink were playing a point at the beginning of the second set when things started to shake. The viewers from home could also see the camera shaking, but the players didn’t stop and eventually it was Zvever to win the point. Apparently, Sascha and Dominik didn’t even notice the earthquake that was of a 5.7 magnitude.
After the match, Sascha commented,
“I didn’t know what happened. Neither did Dominik. We just heard the crowd. I guess the lights started shaking and the crowd felt it more than we did. We were running around the court, so we had to play a point during the earthquake.
We didn’t feel much, but still obviously I know it happens here in Acapulco. I’ve witnessed it here before, so I guess it’s normal for Acapulco.”
The German no.1 managed to win the match 6-4 7-65 after recovering from a 1-4 deficit in the second set. Zverev will face Tsitsipas in the final. Their current record is 5-1 for Tsitsipas.
