That was a close match!
It looked as it was another disappointing defeat for the former world nr.1.
Sharapova’s first set was quite embarassing.
She committed 7 double faults and she managed to win only 15% of the points on her second serve. Eventually she lost it 3-6.
Then the Russian managed to come back with her incredible drive and she eventually won the following 2 sets both at the tie break 7-6 (8) and 7-6 (5).
At the end of the match the Russian displayed a horrible record of 17 double faults!
She will play the semifinals against Andrea Petrovik that managed to beat Jankovic 2-6 6-2 6-4.
If she wants to get to the final, she has to do something to improve the second serve.
