Amanda Anisimova is not having the season she was hoping for at the beginning of the year. The 19-year-old went full of hopes in the Middle East in January, but then she tested positive for Coronavirus. That meant that Anisimova lost the charter to Melbourne to miss the entire Australian summer and the related tournaments. Amanda tried to play the W25 event in Orlando, where she was top-seeded to then concede a walkover in the 2nd round.
Anisimova in Doha
Amanda Anisimova decided to give it another shot and play the short Middle East swing in March (Doha and Dubai). Eventually, she got an ankle injury to skip Doha. It’s not confirmed yet if she will play the WTA1000 in Dubai that will take place next week. In the meantime, Anisimova was replaced by Misaki Doi in the main draw.
Amanda Anisimova has been struggling for 1 year and a half since she suddenly lost her father (and long-time coach) right before the 2019 US Open and just before turning 18.
