Naomi Osaka is arguably the best female tennis player in the world right now. Osaka has impressed with how she conquered her 4th slam at the Australian Open, always controlling the situation also during tough moments. The Japanese sensation had to go through rather tough patches during the 14 days in Melbourne. Osaka had even to save 2 consecutive match points against Garbine Muguruza in the 4th round (statistics) before continuing her triumphant run and beat Su-Wei Hsieh, Serena Williams, and Jennifer Brady.
Osaka, her style and her mother’s philosophy
Naomi Osaka is notoriously becoming more and more aggressive during her matches. This style was further developed by Naomi’s current coach Wim Fissette. However, Osaka’s parents have a slightly different philosophy.
Naomi Osaka’s father Leonard Francois was her daughter’s coach since the beginning of her career, and he was more for a so-called percentual game.
During a recent press conference, Naomi Osaka discussed her mother’s interpretation of the game saying that her idea of the sport is to put in as many balls as possible.
“My mom is funny. Every time I play a match she says, like, I wish you could just put more balls in the court. For her, the solution to winning a match is to put balls in the court. She does not care about the pace or nothing,” said an amused Naomi.
Everyone has his or her own idea on how to do things!
