Another week and some more glory for Simona Halep.
The world no.1 reaches her back to back final in Cincinnati 1 week after she won the title in Montreal.
This time, Halep had a rather smooth sail through the week. In fact, after losing the first set in her opening match against Ajla Tomjalovic, the world no.1 won 8 consecutive sets before reaching the final.
Simona’s last casualty was the heavy hitter Aryna Sabalenka from Byelorussia that lost the match 6-3 6-4.
It was a big challenge. HALEP
After the match, Simona commented
“It was a big challenge for me to have an opponent that is so young and winning so good matches and tough matches before with confidence very high. It was a tough match.
She was serving big – it was 110mph every time. I was pretty strong and I just wanted to make her move as much as possible. I think I won this match because I was fighting until the end. I did actually exactly how I felt on court I could do that. That’s why maybe I was able to win. And also mentally I was strong.”
The final vs. Kiki Bertens
Simona will face Kiki Bertens for the title. The head to head is 2-1 for Simona that is the favorite to win the contest.
