Simona Halep is too good, just too good.
When you think that Simona is done after the incredible run she had last week when she won an incredible title in Montreal, the world no.1 repeats herself in Cincinnati.
In fact, Simona managed to dispatch Ashleigh Barty (7-5 6-4) and Lelsa Tsurenko (6-4 6-1) after playing less than 3 hours in total (1h28m and 1h16min).
Even if Simona got both wins in straight sets, she had to battle in 3 sets against a 1-break-down deficit as she was 1-3 (1st) and 0-2 (2nd) down against Barty, and she was 1-4 down against Tsurenko in the opener before winning 10 of the following 11 games.
I am tired and happy
After the match, Simona commented
“It was a tough day. I’m really tired. But I’m happy that I could win both of them. And the second one I think it was much better from 1-4, and, yeah, I feel confident now. I started to feel the game.
After I won Montreal, I said that I want to come here to win some more matches. because after winning a title is always the feeling that ‘Let’s do more.'”
Next vs. Sabalenka
Halep will face hard-hitting Aryna Sabalenka for a place in the final. The head to head is 1-0 for Simona.
