Roger Federer has been out from the competitions for 1 year after being sidelined by a knee issue that cost him 2 operations.
Roger was meant to come back to competitions at the Australian Open, but eventually he decided to wait a bit more, saying he was still not at his 100%. Finally, it was officialized that Federer will comeback in Doha that will commence the 8th of March.
During a recent interview, with SRF, Roger confirmed that the Australian open was to early to say:
“I’ve been thinking about when and where to come back for a long time. Australia was a touch too early because of my knee.”
Roger played in Doha 8 years ago for the last time and he won the event on 3 occasions. The first time he conquered this event, he defeated his own coach in the final. See Federer’s record in Doha. There were rumors about Federer playing in Rotterdam, but that probably won’t happen as the tournament will be staged before Doha.
Talking about why he chose Doha instead of playing a bigger tournament, he said:
“I wanted to make my comeback at a smaller tournament so that I wasn’t fully in focus and where the stress is also a little less.”
