Isner, Harrison to clash in the semis in Newport – Youtube

We have 3 Americans in the semis in Newport as Isner and Harrison just joined Ram in the final four.

ISNER – VAN DER MERWE 6-4 7-6(2)

Not so smooth win from the seed no.1 against the world no.155. Big Johny won the match using his best weapon (the serve) so as not to concede a single break. The American used his weapong quite effectively in the second set when he was 5-6 0-30 down to win the next 5 points. “More times than not, when I’m in a match and when I really need a big serve, I tend to come up with it,” he said. “At the very least I hit my fastest serve because I tend to have the adrenaline. It’s something I’ve said a million times – it’s a weapon I’m lucky to have and it’s sort of a get out of jail free card.” The match ended after 83 minutes.

HARRISON – BECKER 6-4 3-0 ret.

Easy stuff for Ryan that took advantage of Becker’s injury at left hamstring after 57 minutes. During the match the American was really good at defend all 7 break points conceded to the German and to convert 3 out 5 break points.

Talking about the all American semifinal, when asked about his toughts about Harrison, Isner said with a smile “Ryan thinks he can beat anyone in the world,”. Soon after a smiling Harrison replied “I think John has that same attitude, too,” he said. “Anybody 4hat’s played at a high level of any sport has to have that attitude.”

Official head to head is 1-0 for Isner on the hard court in 2010 in Memohis (6-1 7-5).
