Federer, Murray to start their 2012 US Open campaign in day one

Here we are. The US Open is about to start. The seed no1 and the seed no3 will immediately commence their campaign in day one at the Flushing Meadows. It’s not mission impossible for both of them.

FEDERER

Roger will play Donald Young. The American is currently ranked world no.80 and he is not playing really well. He recently ended an incredible losing streak of 17th matches to have a horrible 2-20 record in 2012. Besides that, Young had a wonderful US Open last year to reach the 4th round, so that can be menacing for Roger (just a bit…)

The match will take place 7pm local time.

Roger is feeling pretty well at the moment “I think I felt good last year, but probably felt that maybe at times the matches were not always in my racquet, whereas maybe this time around I feel like if I’m playing well I can dictate who’s going to win or lose,” he said. “It’s going to take something special from my opponent to win. That’s kind of how it feels right now.”

“I’m just happy how I’m playing,” said the Swiss. “I already reached my goal for the year becoming World No. 1 and getting Wimbledon again and getting a medal for Switzerland. It’s been incredible. But I do have this one left for me this year where I really, really want to do well, and I couldn’t be more happy returning here as No. 1. It’s super exciting.”

MURRAY

The Gold Medal will have a slightly more daunting task than Roger to play Bogomolov Jr. in the first round. The Russian is ranked 73.

The interesting stat is that Andy has “only” a 3-1 record against Bogomolov as he lost to him in stright sets last year in the second round Miami 6-1 7-5 (we could not see another upset though).
