Roddick loses to Del Potro to retire – 2012 US Open

Yes, time to go for Andy, but he did it in style.

The American tried everything he could to extend his career, but Delpo was too good. The match has been interrupted the day before at the tiebreak because of the rain. When the game resumed Andy had a wonderful start to win that tiebreak at 1 and  bring the Argentine to another tiebreak in the second set. This time it was Delpo to win the breaker to then have a relatively comfortable match and win 6-7 (1) 7-6 (4) 6-2 6-4.

From Andy

After the match there was a super emotional court-side speech from Andy. “Since I was a kid, I’ve been coming to this tournament. I felt lucky just to sit where all of you are sitting today, to watch this game, to see the champions that have come and gone,” Roddick told the fans. “I’ve loved every minute of it.”

”It’s been a road of a lot of ups, a lot of downs, a lot of great moments. I’ve appreciated your support along the way,” Roddick said. ”I know I certainly haven’t made it easy for you at times but I really do appreciate it and love you guys with all my heart. Hopefully I’ll come back to this place someday and see all of you again.”

Good stuff. Our best wishes to Andy!
