Murray defeats Berdych to reach the 2012 US Open Final

Strange semi at the US Open. The match was played in extremely windy conditions and it was more about who could adapt to it. Murray was the clear winner as he was much better than Berdych at using the wind as his friend. So Andy committed only 20 unforced errors against 64 from Berdych!

When Andy was against the wind he was using lots of drop shots and high lobs, when the Scott was on the other side he was using evil and sneaky slices on his backhand. Textbook tennis.

Berdych managed to win the first set, to then go on vacation and find himself 7-5 6-2 6-1 3-0 and a break point down in no time. At a certain point it was embarrassing seeing the striking difference about how much better was Murray than Berdych to adapt to the wind, the Czech wasn’t there at all. Then out of the blue Berdych came back to break back Murray and bring the set to the tie break. Time for Andy to save a set point to win the breaker at 7.

“It’s been great,” said Murray. “To be in the final and get the chance to play for a Grand Slam is great. My results in the Slams over the last couple of years have been very good. Obviously, this year in the major tournaments, along with the Olympics, it’s been my best year. I have never made two Grand Slam finals in a year, so that’s obviously a good sign that I’m playing better and still learning.”

“The wind was really, really tough one,” said Berdych. “He dealt with that much better than I did.”
