Djokovic breezes past Berdych to play Ferrer in the Semifinal – 2013 Australian Open

What a great Nole! He was supposed to be dead tired and doomed against a fresh Tomas Berdych and he managed to win also this match and it didn’t take too long!

To tell the truth that was a kind of combination of Nole’s greatness with Berdych mistakes. The Czech could not play  any worse than that. The main goal would have been to give to Djokovic a tough match especially at the beginning to take advantage of his not perfect conditions after Nole’s battle with Wawrinka.

After winning the first game Tomas lost the next 6 in no time to lose the first set in only 28 minutes. Ahi ahi… he had at least to give the Serb a battle… not losing in 28 minutes the opener. At least the battle came in the second set that lasted 54 minutes and Berdych won it 6-4.

Game change? No way! Nole won the 3rd set 6-1 and in 28 minutes (again!) to win also the forth set 6-4 without many problems.

The match lasted 2 hours and 31 minutes and this is good news for Nole.

From Nole

“I felt good enough to go another five hours,” said Djokovic. “But I definitely wasn’t thinking about it.  I tried to get the work done as fast and efficiently as possible. I was very happy with the way I started the match. I was very aggressive out there, going for my shots, which wasn’t the case against Wawrinka. So it’s a good improvement and very encouraging for next match.”

From Berdych

“I’ve seen him play way better,” said Berdych. “He played really good today. But the matches before he played much, much better. It was kind of a chance for me, but I didn’t come up with my best game and that’s what was deciding today.”

Next match Nole will play Ferrer that won an epic 5 setter agains Almagro
