Lisicki wins an epic semifinal in Wimbledon against Radwanska

And that was another great match from Sabine!

The German is playing the best tennis of her career to endure a very tough semifinal against last year’s runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska. The match was a 2 hours and 18 minutes battle with Lisicki displaying an incredibly aggressive tennis (60 winners and 46 unforced errors) and Radwanska trying to storm the weather (21 winners and 10 unforced errors).

After exchanging the first 2 sets, the duo went to a tough decider that lasted 69 minutes. Sabine got an important break to go and serve for the match when she was 5-4 up. Eventually she was broken to add a bit more drama to this semis. Finally the Gerrman broke again Agnieszka to then hold serve and grab the final.

The German had some thoughts about the last few games to comment “I thought, ‘I’ve done it against Serena so you can do it today as well, just hang in there,’, It gave me so much confidence and I’m just so, so happy I was able to finish it.” said Sabine.

“It was unbelievable, the last few games were so exciting. Agnieszka played so well, it was a battle and I’m so happy to have won it. she added.

 

The final vs. Bartoli

Sabine will play an explosive Marion Bartoli (6-1 6-2 on Flipkens) in the final. Head to head is 3-1 for Sabine, 1-1 on grass. The German won the last match on grass 6-4 6-7(4) 6-1 in the quarter finals of Wimbledon 2011.
