Genie Bouchard about to play Iga Swiatek explains why she is so grateful to the Tennis French Federation

Genie Bouchard In Good Form At The French Open

Eugenie Bouchard is trying harder and harder to get back to what is for her a “decent ranking.” The Canadian beauty seemed to be well on her way to stardom in 2014 when at 20 years of age, she was the runner-up in Wimbledon after reaching the semifinals at the Australian Open and the Roland Garros. Later she also got to the 4th round of the US Open and she also won her first and only WTA title in Nuremberg. However, things started to go dramatically south during the WTA Finals of the same year when she recorded the worst performance of a player in the history of the event. From that moment, Genie struggled with her results to have even problems staying in the top200.

Genie seemed to be more focussed on her modeling career than winning tennis matches and she was really having problems to find a solution to get her game back.

The wildcard at the French Open

After the resumption of the tours, Bouchard showed some sign of renaissance in Prague and in Instanbul, where she lost in the final after starting her run from the qualifications. Eventually, the Tennis French Federation agreed to grant her a wild card for the Roland Garros main draw probably (as rumored) after a negotiation with the Canadian Tennis Federation.

Nevertheless, Genie is making the most out of the opportunity she got in Paris and she is now in the 3rd round where she will face the French Open 2019 semifinalist Iga Swiatek.

After her successful 2nd round against Gavrilova, Genie commented:

“I’m proud of taking advantage of the opportunities. There are so few tournaments this year. Especially with my ranking, I was very limited with what I could play. First of all, very grateful to the French federation for giving me the wildcard here.

Also grateful to them for making such a big effort to put this tournament on. We’re all just so grateful to have jobs, have a big event to kind of end our season. You just have to be so grateful for every opportunity. I’ve tried to push myself in every chance I’ve had because I know there are so few.”

Live rankings

Genie is no.140 in the live rankings. If she beats Swiatek, she will be no.114. Furthermore, she will be back in the top100 if she reaches the quarters.
